Hi, I'm Rachel

Throughout my life, I have always felt drawn towards people and their stories. In both my personal and professional relationships, I have experienced the truth of what Maya Angelou once wrote: "There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you." We all carry around unspoken things – stories, dreams, regrets, questions. I have experienced firsthand the gift that therapy can be, as it offers a safe and brave space for us to speak, explore, wonder, and heal. I hope to offer the same to my clients.
In my professional experience as a therapist, I have worked with adolescents, adults, and couples with wide array of stressors and concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, developing a healthy sense of self, exploring identity questions, spiritual and religious issues, navigating relational boundaries, family conflict, life transitions, grief and loss, addiction, codependency, and LGBTQ+ issues.

Trauma-informed

Trauma is not simply a single or recurring event; it is determined by how we internalize, interpret, experience, and carry such events. With this understanding, I honor the impact of my clients experiences, however they carry and cope with them. I engage my clients in ways that are collaborative, empowering, and strengths-based, believing that true power is found side-by-side, not in authority over others.

icon

Culturally-responsive

Integral to our life in society are the many facets of our identity, such as race, ethnicity, ability, socioeconomic status, religious membership, gender identity, sexual orientation. How we experience the world, and how the world experiences us can often significantly contribute to or even cause mental and emotional distress. Our identity can also influence our perspectives on healing and change. I view these realities of our lives to be of immense importance, and I welcome them in our conversations.

Person-centered

Both research and personal experience indicate that the most significant factor of change is the quality of the relationship between therapist and client. Essential to that relationship is empathic understanding, a non-judgmental posture, and genuine, approachable presence. No single path or approach works for or resonates with everyone. I do not pledge allegiance to any one theory or framework. I value working together with you to figure out what best supports your journey towards wholeness.

We know what the world wants from us. We know we must decide whether to stay small, quiet, and uncomplicated or allow ourselves to grow as big, loud, and complex as we were made to be.

Start-Up Logistics

Transitioning into your own private practice can seem daunting, and it’s helpful to have a realistic sense of what to consider, including filing your business with the state, obtaining liability insurance, choosing EHR software, and budgeting for start-up costs.

Work with Insurance

You value mental healthcare being accessible, but you’ve been dissuaded from taking insurance because it seems like a headache to navigate. I’m here to help answer questions about how to work in-network with insurance and maintain paperwork in line with carrier guidelines.
